This is wonderful. I despair of a Democratic Party that destroys its own credibility by promising to be nicer versions of Republicans. I completely agree with your diagnosis and solution. I would add: Democrats also need to define enemies and attack them ruthlessly.
On: "Democrats also need to define enemies and attack them ruthlessly."
1000%.
We need to be completely destroying Republicans' claims of caring about families, children, Christianity, or America. Their entire worldview is a fraud, and Dems need to suspend all civility until such a time as the GOP chooses to be civil.
Until then, all of those in power in the GOP need to be treated like the cancer to humanity they are. We should be spending every second pointing to how the entire party and their donors have betrayed the people that support them.
I encourage you to check these out as it is all about that:
I checked this out. My goodness it's everything I thought myself about what's going on with Republicans and how to attack them. I thought this was so obvious that Democrats would see it and start doing it. After 15 or 20 years of waiting for it to happen, I decided to start Attack (https://epurchaseattack.substack.com/). I didn't know anyone else thought along the same lines. I hope you've gotten better feedback than me. Mostly, no one comments. I've gotten a few responses from people who understand the point about Republicans being delusional and not simply misinformed. But most people say, "No, we must continue to reason with Republicans and treat them civilly." OK, but we've done that for 50 years, and Republicans have only drifted farther from reality. Maybe it's time to do something different?
Yeah... that's the whole problem. And I've had some positive feedback, but not nearly as much as we need in order to build a sufficiently effective counter movement. I keep trying to convince people on the left that the civility they love so much is a trap. Not because we should want to be uncivil, but because it's a simple matter of game theory.
If you have 2 players, Player 1 realizes that they can act in a certain way and gain an advantage while the other side has decided that they will never act in the same way or clawback the advantage, you have created a positive expected value for that behavior and it would be irrational for Player 1 not to perform that behavior.
So, the only way to create a civil environment is to be willing to be uncivil when the other side is uncivil, to a degree at least equivalent so as to guarantee that they understand that being uncivil is a losing proposition for everyone. That way there's no advantage to be had in being uncivil for anyone, and that's how you get civility.
But instead, much of the left fell for the cancerous idea of "when they go low, we go high." And as a result the right has learned that it can cheat, be uncivil, and even violent, with no real cost, or at least at a cost that is superseded by the gains.
As Lukium points out this Cheeto rodeo didn't just occur It has been a long time in the making Interestingly it started as Nixon took the country off of the gold standard Although the coincidence may not be meaningful the point is that for the last 50y there has been an ongoing attack on the federal government first at it's economic base with going off the gold standard and then with Reaganomics and the "trickle down" theory which has been debunked with at least one Yale white paper
Then there was the rise of the unitary executive theory during the years of Reagan which much of the conservatives now on the Robert's court have supported and recently with the immunity decision have created a dictator
And now with the majority of power in Congress, SCOTUS, and the executive branch, the once GOP is now the Nazi Republican party and are determined to create an authoritarian regime in the guise of "government efficiency" and Christian Nationalism But there is nothing efficient or moral about it DOGE didn't save any money but was responsible for the government's destruction and the Cheeto regime has increased the national debt by $1T at least and its only one year into the term
The point is that the Nazis have scammed our country down a path of destruction with hair brain theories that is essence are all about power putting WE the People in last place which is what the federal government was meant to serve

Exactly. Well said. I like to say that Democrats talk as if all voters read the New York Times from cover to cover on Sunday morning.
He forgot the sainted Ronald Reagan in his "straight line."
