My Ethical AI Use: A Neurodivergent Writer's Approach
As a neurodivergent writer, my mind often processes information in complex, layered, and non-linear ways. The challenge isn't a lack of ideas—it's translating those intricate thoughts into the clear, structured, and powerful communication you deserve.
This is where I use AI ethically: not as a creator, but as a bridge. It’s the assistive tool that helps me focus on the core of my work—the ideas, the strategy, the arguments—without getting bogged down in the mechanics of translation. It allows me to make my thoughts and arguments accessible, clear, and actionable for a neurotypical world.
My process:
Unpacking and Refining: My thoughts often emerge fully formed but structurally complex. I use AI to help me unpack them—simplifying sentence structure and improving clarity so the core idea lands without losing its depth or nuance.
Organizing for Coherence: To ensure my arguments are rationally coherent and flow logically for the reader, I use AI as a sounding board. It helps me test the structure of a piece and see it from the outside in.
Creating Multiple Versions: When discussing complex subjects, I use AI to help create both a "Quick Take" and a "Deep Dive" to offer you, the reader, greater flexibility for consuming my content.
Fact-checking Assistance: AI serves as an assistant for initial validation of historical events, timelines, and references. However, every fact is ultimately researched and verified by me to uphold accuracy and accountability.
Why this matters:
I'm mindful that AI, like any tool, can be misused. It's no substitute for human thought, creativity, or accountability. For me, this is about authenticity and accessibility.
My neurodivergence is a strength that allows me to see the systems and patterns I write about, but AI is the tool that makes those insights accessible to everyone.
