The question is WHY ISN’T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING TO STOP THIS??? This is why everything is so frustrating. There is a limit as to what everyday citizens can do, but if attorneys aren’t standing up to this illegal practice, it is only going to get worse!
I think a lot of these law firms are looking around and here's what they're seeing:
1. SCOTUS is full of Trump collaborators
2. Congress is controlled by Trump collaborators
3. Democrats have no cohesive messaging likely to move public opinion.
4. Despite there being a lot of protests going on, there's not really a cohesive, unified "ask" from the protests that meaningfully address everything that's going on as a single umbrella, just 1000 different messages splintering the entire movement, meaning that it's unlikely to get anywhere no matter how loud. Sure, it might be exciting and cool to go out on the streets with signs and yell out your grievances, but can you name a single instance where this regime has actually been forced to lose ground on anything? I can't. They've been slowed by the courts but continue to push forward; they've waffled on the tariffs (which are still set to come back now in 90 days). We can't even get them to return someone they admit having erroneously deported who had a COURT ORDER saying they couldn't be deported.
When you add all that up together, you have 2 options:
A. Stand for ethics with a very high chance to get obliterated.
B. Capitulate now and hope to have the chance to fight another day if things start to improve.
As much as I hate to admit it and while I think I'd pick A in their position, an objective analysis leads me to sympathize with those picking B.
We, the people, need a better strategy, and until we come up with it and give institutions like the media, law firms, etc. the sense and expectation that we stand to win, expect institutions to continue capitulating. Remember, at the end of the day, institutions are made of people, and people don't like being on the losing side.
I understand and agree with much of what you are saying, but this is how & why Germany wound up as it did, and I would be mortified to be in that place as a country, all because all of these people who know better are not taking the high road. Once everyone caves in, there is no coming back. And that of course is exactly what this regime wants to happen. As far as the Dems having no cohesive message, that has always been their problem, and it seems so much more pronounced at this time. I’m hoping that there is a lot of primarying going on during the midterms. Too many of those in leadership are not doing the country any favors these days. As a matter of fact, they are more concerned about their own pocketbooks than their constituents needs & they are not stepping up for the party. There is so much disillusionment when it comes to politicians these days, and rightfully so.
I agree 100%. I'm not saying I'm ok with them capitulating, just that I can understand the calculation they're making however much I personally think that it's not the right calculation that people should be making, precisely for the reasons you offered—that at the end of the day, once the regime consolidates power, they'll just crush the people capitulating anyway.
"Thought police" is exactly what I thought (uh oh!) when I heard this. That this nest of idiots presumes to know anyone's future thoughts is preposterous. They can't even accurately assess what people have already thought!

I think that the whole thing is a feedback loop:

No we are not safe! My advice to anyone traveling outside of America gets a burner phone. Our civil rights are under attack by the corrupt regime
