That’s exactly right. They don’t want educated people because educated people rarely believe in creationism and all the rest of their troglodytic nonsense. And of course, as always in America, the racism is the main root. I don’t know why that still surprises me after all this time, but it’s still shocking. So disappointing that that kind of mindless hatred still motivates so many.
The part that really blows my mind is how many people think that segregated schools are completely a thing of the past, or who can't see how the voucher/charter schools are to a large degree just segregation by a different name.
It also ties into all the different ways that they're trying to bring back Jim Crow levels of voter suppression. Meanwhile, most people are too busy watching Netflix or Football/Basketball/Baseball/etc. to really grasp how democracy is getting stripped apart. Don't get me wrong, I watch my fair share of Streaming services, but it doesn't have to be either or. If people consciously choose to be tuned out and not understand what's going on, we're f*cked.
I think Americans have had it so easy for so long that they can’t comprehend what’s clearly happening. It’s not in their frame of reference. They’re either oblivious or stunned and helpless. Hopefully that changes soon.
As a Canadian observing the mess you are in, would it not make sense to let those extremely racist southern states become their own entity? Just provide all people of colour money to move and funding support for reemployment. Housing would be a major barrier.
Has there ever been national surveys to see if there is any support for separating?
It doesn't appear, from the outside, that systems were put into place to address the slavery fallout. If voting restrictions and private schools for whites have maintained segregation to this day, and you aren't allowed to teach about systemic racism, even in a best case scenario, it would take several generations to turn you in to a modern, secular society.
I don't understand why people of colour haven't left long ago for another state. And women who aren't brainwashed by "evangelist " churches.
