DOGE v. The Constitution
🔴 UPDATE: March 19, 2025
Trump’s DOGE Seizes Privately Owned U.S. Institute of Peace, Federal Judge Refuses to Halt Takeover
The Trump administration’s Department of Government Extinction (DOGE) has stormed and seized control of the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP)—a privately owned, congressionally funded institution—overriding its legal autonomy and ignoring constitutional protections. This was not just a government restructuring; this was a hostile takeover of private property by federal forces. And when USIP sought emergency intervention, a federal judge refused to stop it.
This is a direct assault on the Constitution’s protections against government overreach, setting a terrifying precedent: if the government can seize a federally funded private institution today, what stops them from seizing any other private entity tomorrow?
Key Developments:
USIP is a private, nonpartisan entity, created by Congress but legally structured as independent. Unlike federal agencies, it owns its headquarters and is not under executive branch control—which made DOGE’s occupation an unconstitutional power grab.
DOGE forcibly entered USIP’s premises with armed agents, expelling staff and assuming control of its operations, in clear violation of property rights.
A federal judge denied USIP’s request for an emergency restraining order, allowing DOGE’s occupation to continue. While judge Beryl Howell called DOGE’s tactics “offensive,” they ruled that immediate intervention was unnecessary, citing insufficient evidence of irreparable harm.
This action contradicts constitutional principles of limited government and private property rights, as even congressionally funded institutions do not surrender ownership or governance to the executive branch.
The Real Story: Who Wins and Who Pays the Price?
The Robber Barons Win: By erasing the distinction between government funding and government ownership, Trump’s oligarch allies can now justify seizing or dismantling any institution they dislike—including media organizations, research institutions, and NGOs.
Private Institutions Are Now Vulnerable: If a federally funded but independent entity like USIP can be raided and commandeered at will, what stops this administration from seizing universities, nonprofits, or even businesses that receive federal grants or subsidies?
Right-Wing Deep State Tactics: This is how they consolidate power—they blur the line between public and private, then claim the right to control everything they touch.
🔍 Why This Matters:
This isn’t about streamlining government; it’s about bulldozing legal protections. If the executive branch can take control of private institutions under the excuse of federal funding, then property rights, independent governance, and constitutional checks on power are meaningless. Every private entity connected to the government is now a target.
🚨 The Bottom Line:
DOGE’s armed takeover of a privately owned institution is unconstitutional—and the courts just let it happen. If they can do this to USIP, they can do it to any private entity that doesn’t align with their agenda.
The Trump administration isn’t just ignoring the Constitution—they are rewriting it through force.
