That there is no proof of life is very concerning in itself. But why is he the only person we are fighting for? They were ALL kidnapped, regardless. If the SCOTUS has no way to enforce their ruling to return even this one man, then the authoritarian regime has essentially taken a firmer hold, and this will be the start of rounding up people and sending them to concentration camps. It is a horrifying prospect because any group of people, citizens or not, will be subject to the whims of this fascist regime. I don’t understand why the Republicans don’t see this. Do they think that they will be able to escape this tyranny? I think not.
The focus on Garcia is that his is the most egregious case. He literally had a court order prohibiting the US Government from sending him to El Salvador. If his case can't be resolved, then none of the others will.
So yes, everyone being sent to CECOT is important, but from a strategic standpoint, focusing on Abrego Garcia is the best way to help ALL of them.
I suppose it makes sense, but I can’t believe that this regime is outwardly defying the SCOTUS. And although it is being said that there will be criminal contempt charges, who will actually face them? It’s been over a month now, and the regime is continuing to defiantly digging its heels in.
Personally, I contend that to a large degree, they're not technically defying SCOTUS (except for the convo in the Oval and the El Salvador's convo with Senator Van Holen). In my opinion, SCOTUS essentially opened the door for the continued lawlessness when it said that the admin only needs to facilitate (without explicitly clarifying what it meant by that), while undermining the term "effectuate" and telling the lower court that it must give due deference to the admin's foreign affairs exclusive powers.
Oh, and if I remember correctly, there are 4 specific individuals that may be facing the contempt charges on Boesberg's court at the moment.
If people are finally facing jail time, perhaps there is room for some hope. We will have to see what really happens. I just keep feeling like the noose is tightening around all of our throats and our country is being invaded and pillaged.
Yeah. I'm with you. It's a really other feeling. It's ironic in the worst way possible. As much as they claim that these "illegals" are a threat to the country, I have never felt more threatened by the government itself.

I was a little concerned about this trip because of Jonestown. But it looks like the Senator will be OK.
Isn’t there a way the courts can demand stop payment until compliance?
My guess is that they would claim the payment is a matter of foreign affairs that cannot be touched by the courts.
