Breaking — He Was Clear When He Fired. He Killed Renee Good Anyway.
Video analysis and a fire department report destroy ICE's self-defense claim.
While others stenograph, grift, or chase the next distraction—this is the news that matters and how it’s connected.
We knew ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot Renee Good—a 37-year-old mother—on January 7. We knew ICE called it “self-defense.” We knew the faithful would find a way to say she deserved it.
Now we know what “self-defense” looks like to ICE: four gunshot wounds from three shots. Two to the right chest. One to the left forearm. One to the left side of her head—”with protruding tissue,” according to the Minneapolis Fire Department’s incident report, obtained by the Star Tribune through a public records request. Blood flowing from her left ear.1
The New York Times published their video analysis yesterday (seen below).2 Their findings confirmed it: Ross moved directly in front of the SUV as Good was executing a three-point turn to leave—"law enforcement officers are trained to avoid doing this." She was turning right, away from the agent. There was "a visible gap between the vehicle and his legs, indicating his feet are positioned outside the SUV's path." Ross was still standing when he fired the second and third shots.²
This supports our earlier analysis, which used background reference points to show Ross was stationary for 1.77 seconds before firing—53 frames during which he chose to stand in place, unholster his weapon, aim, and shoot, rather than step away from "danger."
But the Times analysis missed something. By synchronizing Ross’s cell phone video with bystander footage using the audio of the three gunshots, we identified the exact frame when he fired. Fourteen frames before the first shot—roughly half a second—Ross’s left hand is parallel to the front of Good’s vehicle, facing forward. His phone then moves up toward his torso as he leans against the vehicle. He’s clear. The vehicle is passing him. And then—half a second later, with both feet to the left of it—he fires. Then fires again. Then fires again.
He wasn’t in danger when he pulled the trigger. The threat, if it ever existed, had passed.
One more thing: Look at the bullet hole in the windshield3. The trajectory shows the first shot couldn’t have struck the left side of Good’s head. The headshot came later—likely last. Blood flowing from the ear suggests that shot was fatal. The bullet that killed Renee Good was almost certainly fired when Jonathan Ross was completely clear of the vehicle. His reaction? ”Fucking bitch.”²
She was fleeing. He was executing.
And then they left her to die.
In our earlier analysis, we asked why first responders spent several minutes performing CPR if Good was beyond saving—and why ICE agents didn’t provide the same aid, or allow a physician on scene to help.
The fire department’s report sheds light on those questions. Paramedics found her at 9:42 a.m. Not breathing—but her pulse was “inconsistent,” not gone.¹ She was still alive. They moved her to a snowbank to get “separation from an escalating scene.” CPR was discontinued at the hospital at 10:30 a.m.¹
Our video timeline shows what happened in the six minutes between the shooting and first responders arriving. At 1:43, agents first touched her doors—no CPR, still in the driver's seat. At 3:18, a physician yelled "Stop the bleeding! Stop the bleeding!" At 3:22, agents closed her door and walked away. No CPR. No agents nearby. At 4:51, the physician asked to check her pulse. An agent said "No." The physician said "I'm a physician!" The agent: "I don't care." Another agent claimed they had medics on scene. A bystander shouted back: "Where are they?! Where are they?!" First responders finally arrived at 6:04.
Six minutes. No CPR. Blocked from medical care. Left to bleed out alone.
We will never know if Renee Good could have survived. What we know is that ICE made sure she didn’t get the chance. Jonathan Ross pulled the trigger—but the agents who abandoned a dying woman and blocked a physician from helping share responsibility for her death.
What Self-Defense Looks Like
Jonathan Ross had 1.77 seconds to step out of the way. He chose to stand still. He had half a second after the vehicle passed him to not pull the trigger. He chose to fire. Three times.
ICE called it “self-defense” and accused her of trying to run him over. Video showed her wheels turned away from him. They lied. They’re still lying.
This is the agency occupying Minneapolis with 3,000 armed agents. The agency whose deputy AG calls the governor a “terrorist.” The agency that tear-gassed a car full of children two days ago. The agency whose contractors choked a man to death in Texas four days before they shot Renee Good.
Three shots. Four wounds. For not opening a car door.
There's more below, but first: We synced footage frame-by-frame and found what others missed. We connect the pieces into the pattern others won't name. If that matters, please consider supporting The American Manifesto. Paid subscriptions make this work possible.
The Pattern
We’ve been mapping this administration against the fascism syndrome—ten indicators that a democracy is backsliding into fascism:
Normalization of political violence: Four gunshot wounds for refusing to open a car door. This is what “compliance or death” looks like when federal agents operate with impunity.
War on reality: ICE called this “self-defense.” The fire department report describes a woman shot three times, still alive with an inconsistent pulse, abandoned by agents who blocked a physician from helping her. The gap between the official story and what the documents show is not spin. It’s a cover-up.
Weaponized justice: Ten federal prosecutors have quit rather than investigate her widow. The DOJ is trying to frame the victim’s family instead of investigating the shooter. Jonathan Ross walks free while the family he destroyed is under investigation.
This is how fascist regimes operate. The vice president tells a paramilitary force they have “absolute immunity”—that the man who killed a mother was “doing his job” and deserves “a debt of gratitude.”4 Law enforcement is the pretext, not the purpose. The purpose is compliance through terror. Obey or die. Open the door or get shot. The lesson isn’t meant for Renee Good. She’s already dead. The lesson is meant for you.
Have y’all not learned this is fascism yet, have you not learned?5

Your Move
ICE claimed self-defense. Does four gunshot wounds—including one to the head—sound like self-defense to you?
Six minutes. No CPR. A physician blocked from helping. What do you call a system that does that?
Who needs to see this? Share it. The official story is a lie.
Brooks Johnson, “Renee Good had four gunshot wounds, fire department report reveals“, Star Tribune, January 15, 2026.
Documents the Minneapolis Fire Department’s incident report obtained through a state Data Practices Act request. Reports Good was found with two gunshot wounds to the right chest, one to the left forearm, and one to the left side of her head “with protruding tissue.” Notes blood was flowing from her left ear, she was not breathing with an “inconsistent” and “irregular” pulse, and was moved to a snowbank for “separation from an escalating scene.” Includes 911 transcript where caller said “they shot her [because] she wouldn’t open her car door.”
The New York Times, “Video Analysis of ICE Shooting Sheds Light on Contested Moments“, The New York Times, January 2026.
Frame-by-frame video analysis that independently confirms key findings. Shows Ross moved directly in front of Good’s SUV as she was executing a three-point turn to leave—violating training that prohibits officers from putting themselves in vehicles’ paths. Documents that Good was turning right, away from the agent; that there was “a visible gap between the vehicle and his legs, indicating his feet are positioned outside the SUV’s path”; and that Ross was still standing with “a clear and growing gap between his body and the SUV” when he fired the second and third shots. Audio analysis captures Ross saying “fucking bitch” after killing her.

Day-of reporting with photographs of Good’s vehicle showing the bullet hole in the windshield. Eyewitnesses told MPR that Good posed “no threat” to the ICE agents who shot her.
Jesus Mesa and Gabe Whisnant, “JD Vance Says ICE Agent Has ‘Absolute Immunity’ After Minneapolis Shooting“, Newsweek, January 8, 2026.
Reports Vice President JD Vance’s claim that ICE agent Jonathan Ross has “absolute immunity” and was “doing his job” when he killed Renee Good. Vance blasted Governor Tim Walz and “radicals” for trying to “make this guy’s life miserable because he was doing the job that he was asked to do.” Legal experts immediately pushed back, noting that over 120 years of case law shows federal officials can be criminally pursued by state prosecutors for conduct taken in the course of their official duties.
FOX 9, “ICE agent asks driver: ‘Have y’all not learned?’“, TikTok, January 2026.
Video from St. Louis Park showing an ICE agent confronting a driver who stopped after witnessing a crash between an ICE vehicle and another car. The agent asks: “Have y’all not learned from the past couple of days, have you not learned?”—an apparent reference to Renee Good’s killing two days earlier. When the driver asks “What’s our lesson here? What do you want us to learn?” the agent deflects and aggressively rips the phone she’s using to record from her hands.

Thank you for the in depth analysis. We ALL know what we saw. Renee Good was murdered/executed by Jonathan Ross. The Fascist Trump Regime is lying to cover up the murder. I live in Minneapolis. They want to break us into submission. That will not happen. But they will spill more blood. That's a fact.
Yet another criminal who will get a pass from this depraved administration.
